Prepping for Audio Post

Prepping for Audio Post (For Editors)

For Commercial:

From your non-linear editing software, Export an AAF with these settings: 48000kHz, 24bit, Embedded Audio, Broadcast Wave, Trim Audio Files, Handle Frames 240

Then, export a reference video Quicktime (H264) with the timecode burned in on the bottom. 720p - 1080p resolution preferred

Upload and send link to the AAF + any additional audio files in a zipped folder.

For Documentary or Narrative Films:

2 pop is not needed, however if it helps you re-sync, then feel free to add a 2 pop on your 2nd frame

Either 00:00:00:00 or 01:00:00:00 TC start time works fine

Please send any sound reports from location mixer and make sure to include all sources of audio for each scene! This is especially important for Narrative films. If possible, please organize your tracks. No need to make it perfect, but aim for something like is:

  • A1 - VO or Boom Dialogue

  • A2-A5 - Dialogue for each character (Lavs)

  • A4-A6 - Roomtone and Verité Nat sound

  • A6-A10 - SFX

  • A10-A12 - Music

It’s okay if tracks are in stacks for the edit. If that’s the case, please keep the same sources on the same channels/tracks throughout the film (or at least throughout each scene), example: Dave’s Lav is always the fourth track down in the stack.

Include additional Roomtone for each location (if you have it) — you can edit it in after the credit roll or send as a separate WAV files.

Export an AAF and an OMF with these settings: 48000kHz, 24bit, Embedded Audio, Broadcast Wave, Trim Audio Files, Handle Frames 240

Then, export a reference video Quicktime (H264) with the timecode burned in on the bottom. 720p - 1080p resolution preferred

Upload and send link to the AAF, OMF + any additional audio files (like Roomtone or wild lines, etc.) in a zipped folder.
